Whispering Cairn, Lair of the Architect, Session Six

As I sat in my private study scrying the young adventurers I noticed they appeared more alert and prepared. Hopefully the heroes are beginning to work as a team and understand each other’s capabilities. As Grog picked his way down the hallway with statue filled alcoves I spotted a strange aberration with two eyes on a strand of striated muscle. It was an odd looking creature, and intelligent from what I gathered, it was probably a beholder kin of some sort. Never the less, the party worked in concert and was able to dispatch the two creatures with little effort. The party continued exploring the hallway which opened up into a large room dominated by a stone pillar, and branched off into two other side rooms. Nyphystra found out soon enough that brown mold had taken root near the western room, so they decided to study the eastern room. While searching the area around the pillar they found a smashed corpse under a stone block that was obviously a trap. The group was able to reverse the block and retrieve the various items hanging on the wall, and amongst the corpse. The eastern room came up empty minus a stone bed with some weird magical effect causing fatigue, and an upward draft creating a nice floating air current for one to sleep on. The group found a toilet to the rear of the large chamber then decided to rest before exploring the last room that was blocked by mold. I could only assume they needed the casters to change out some spells to make the go easier for them. The next day I watched Nyphystra with the help of Cha’ti casting an endure elements spell walk into the room holding the levitated wizard Azeryth aloft. The two were able to search the room and collect up a masterful staff that was grasped by an incomplete statue. The one interesting thing I noticed was the magma-elemental sitting in egg form hibernating on a strange red stone like pedestal. It was obvious it was evil by the looks of the styilized golden glyph. I recognized it, but it appeared Azeryth did also. Nyphystra touched it and the nasty elemental awoke speaking in both Terran, and Ignan. I thought it interesting that the creature asked what they wanted, but it did not take long before it appeared to want to fight over parleying. None the less, Nyphystra made quick work of it with one mighty cleave of her sword. I don’t think the party agreed with her deadly strike, but it was better than the alternative I’m sure. After another nights rest the party left the lair of the architect behind them and made for the chamber beyond the tunnel above the blue lantern. I could only assume this was where the party would find what they came for; clues to fighting the dark days Faerun will soon be facing. Grog scouted ahead, and the remainder of the group followed closely by as they moved down the long corridor. A long rectangular room with a pit filled by grapefruit sized iron balls, and a thin petrified wood beam that crossed the pit ended at a large metal door. The ceiling was vaulted, and the walls had a weird geometric pattern carved into the entire face on each side. I watch Cha’ti cast a spell of some sort on the half-orc as he prepared to cross along the balance beam. As Grog passed across he set off a trap that caused multiple iron balls shoot out both sides of the room; one glanced off his body almost causing him to fall into the pit. If it was not for his excellent dexterity, I’m sure he would have fallen. It was not until several iron balls to the face, and chest that Grog succumbed and fell into the pit. The rope he had tied to himself snapped due to a poorly tied knot, but he landed on his feet like a cat, and was quickly attacked by a horrible aberration called a Grik. Grog retreated to the corner striking the Grick with his spear as Azeryth levitated striking it with a magic missile. Within seconds Cha’ti struck with magical flame he produced, and Nyphystra jumped in to slash with her great sword. It was not until Twexlin rushed in along the beam and dove onto the Grick with the newly acquired magical short sword that ended the un-natural creature’s existence. All in all it was a great battle to be able to witness. I felt a rush of pride being able to spy on the young heroes as they slayed the foul beast. Soon after the battle ended, a ghostly apparition of a young boy flew out of the wall. I’m assuming he was the voice the party heard as they explored this part of the cairn. The ghost manifested then took control of Azeryth which I’m sure was not a good feeling for the Air Genasi. Needless to say the young ghost offered them access to what I assume to be the true tomb of the Air Duke the Whispering Cairn is dedicated to. The one catch was that the heroes must bury his remains on a farmstead close to Daggerford. Obviously the party accepted; after some healing and final searching of the pit which offered up both coins and some Banded mail the party decided to rest. It will be hard for me to keep my excitement in check, I look forward to talking to the heroes after they complete the quest. I’m sure Reaver and I will have much to talk about.
